Spring Mill Fire Company Incident Update – August 31st
On Thursday, August 31st, the Spring Mill Fire Company was dispatched to an incident that demanded quick thinking and teamwork.
Incident Details: At 11:24 hours, we received a call to assist Barren Hill Volunteer Fire Company on Germantown Pike in Whitemarsh Township. The initial report was a vehicle had crashed into the gas pumps, resulting in both the truck and gas pumps catching fire.
First Responders in Action: @Whitemarsh Police were the first on the scene and reported the vehicle fully involved, against the gas pumps. Lieutenant 29 assumed command and took decisive action. Recognizing the severity of the situation, he upgraded the response to a working fire dispatch and requested for a Montgomery County Hazmat officer.
Swift Response: The crews of Engine 29 and Engine 44 (Harmonville Fire Company No.1)rapidly stretched (2) 1 3/4″ hose lines, working together to contain and suppress the fire. Meanwhile, Ladder 45’s crew began applying oil dry to contain the gasoline runoff and prevent it from reaching storm inlets.
Hazmat Assessment: Crews remained on the scene as the Hazmat Chief assessed the situation. Together, a plan was formulated to safely remove the vehicle from the gas pumps.
Mission Accomplished: All units were released from the scene around 13:30 hours. The successful resolution of this incident showcases the teamwork and commitment of our first responders.
