Spring Mill Fire Company No.1 is now accepting applications for the position of a full-time firefighter. The Spring Mill Fire Company No.1 is an equal opportunity employer.

Compensation Package

  • This is an hourly position working 40 hours a week Monday thru Friday, routinely. 
  • There could be occasions requiring you to work non-routine hours or additional hours. 
  • You will be paid 1.5 times your regular hourly rate when you are approved to work over 40 hours in the same week.


  • Responds to emergency calls by driving safely to incident scenes 
  • Operates equipment safely for fire and rescue operations
  • Conducts salvage operations at fire scenes as directed
  • Works in conjunction with Police and Ambulance personnel on emergency scenes
  • Follows manufacturer’s instructions to complete preventative maintenance requirements to ensure equipment within their ability
  • Promotes fire safety by organizing training sessions, talks, and seminars
  • Conducts pre-plan drills of businesses and properties within the response district as assigned
  • Maintain personal protective equipment to be clean and in safe working condition at all times
  • Assesses situations quickly to decide the best course of action 
  • Produces accurate written reports of emergency incidents
  • Participates in educational workshops, seminars, and programs to update job skills and knowledge as assigned
  • Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as required or assigned.
  • Perform general maintenance of the apparatus including but not limited to cleaning and repairs when it is within the scope of the employee’s ability.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in the firehouse Engine Room, Social Room, Ballroom, Bathrooms, Boardroom, Fire Chief’s Office, Lounge, and Storage Areas including cleaning and repairs.
  • Perform general building and grounds duties including but not limited to general repairs and routine maintenance when it is within the scope of the employee’s ability.
  • Setup and breakdown of tables and chairs prior to and after the events in the Ballroom and Social Room.

Paid Time Off – (maximum of 40 hours can be carried over to a new calendar year, remaining hours will be forfeited)

  • 1-4 years – 120 hours accrued paid time off
  • 5-9 years – 160 hours accrued paid time off
  • 10+ years – 200 hours accrued paid time off


Paid Holiday Time Off – New’s Year’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day (if a holiday falls on a Saturday, the employee will have the preceding Friday off. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the employee will have the following Monday off.) 

Employee Birthday – the employee will have their birthday off as a paid time off. (if a holiday falls on a Saturday, the employee will have the preceding Friday off. If the holiday falls on a Sunday, the employee will have the following Monday off.) 

Bereavement – three (3) consecutive days for immediate family members (spouse, children, parents, in-laws, siblings.) One (1) day for other family members. 

Uniform allotment – the employee will be provided with a Spring Mill Fire Company No.1 uniform. It is the employee’s responsibility to maintain his/her uniform in an acceptable manner that properly represents Spring Mill Fire Company at all times

Paid Training – Spring Mill Fire Company will pay for training related to the required duties of the job. All training must be approved by the fire chief

Application Process

  1. Candidates for employment shall submit a written application to the firehouse. 
  2. Following the submittal of the written application all candidates will participate in the physical agility testing on TBD at the Montgomery County Fire Academy, 1175 Conshohocken Road, Conshohocken, PA 19428.
    1. No additional notice will be sent or communicated with the applicants regarding the physical agility test following the submission of the application. The applicant’s application submission is a notice to attend the Physical Agility Test on the date and time above. Applicants should wear a long or short sleeve shirt, work gloves, hard sole shoes/boots, and a structural firefighting helmet (if you are not able to provide a structural firefighting helmet for you to successfully complete this physical agility test. 
  3. Following the successful completion of the physical agility test, the candidate will be notified by mail of the date, time, and place of an oral interview.
  4. Following the oral interview process, both fire companies may conduct background checks and medical examinations in preparation for a final candidate list for consideration for employment
